Memory cards have main functionality as the storage of data. New technologies emerging day by day, so nobody interested to know about the internals of memory card. But there is little bit curiosity about the internals of memory card in mind of every user of memory card. So through this post we will discuss about the internals of memory card.
The study of memory card can be divided into 3 parts. These are storage media, interfacing medium and outer cover
Storage media of memory card
The memory card contains the controller and flash chips. Such flash chip actually stores the data in memory cards. Designs of such chips are covered by numerous patents.
Pin configuration or interfacing medium
Pin structure acts as a communication medium to transfer data to and from other medium. The number of pins varies from 7 to 11 depending upon the type of memory card. SD card bares 9 pin structure whereas microSD card bares 8 pin structure. In this pin configuration each pin has been assigned a specific function.
Memory card outer wrapper
All the manufacturers of memory cards follow the design standards of memory cards. So the appropriate wrapping which fits in the particular type of memory card will be beneficial for manufacturers.
